Contemporary tubeline

This work is partly inspired by Japanese art and design.  Vases which began as flat slabs can be folded into three-dimensional forms.  I enjoy the simplicity of the making process and the relation between the design and the form.

I have always been interested in close observation of nature and the paper form range is a development of a theme where each study on paper is interpreted onto ceramic form through tube-lining and glaze/colour mixes.  The shapes appear to be made from folded paper but are in fact ceramic.  The designs are quite random, rather than being carefully composed, reflecting the disorder of nature rather than a carefully contrived composition.
